This is how normal people are

News that former mayoress, Cllr Shirley Tomlinson, had been charged with drink driving, is splattered on the front page of the Gazette today.

In our democracy, ordinary people sometimes, get elected to political office, in fact I'm sure that most elected politicians were once normal, so why do we need to have highlighted minor indiscretions.

Let's hope this doesn't become one of those topics that gets out of hand, as appeared to be the case when Thanet Labour's hate crime police, got excitable over another tory councillor's  crime, earlier in the year, ignoring a labour colleague's similar homophobia.

Please note this has post has been fueled by alcohol, although please note I'm not driving at the same time.

  1. A very well balanced view for a change, rare in Thanet. Despite your hopes I am sure this unfortunate lady, who has done more good than harm over the years, will be much maligned by the blogsite trolls who quite pee themselves with delight at Tory indiscretions.

  2. It wouldn't have been such a minor indiscretion if she'd killed a kid.

    1. No, 17:19, it would not have been, but she was just 4 ml over the limit and killed no one. You might as well make your silly statement on anyone who undertakes a car journey because plenty of people die in accidents where the drivers have not touched a drop.

Do you seriously expect us to believe that no Labour councillors have ever driven after having a drink. The self righteous are perhaps more horrific than the fallible.

    2. No 15:21, she was more than double the legal limit!
